AMED was started in 2004 with the aim of fostering dialogue and mutual understanding, and strengthening cooperation between Asia and the Middle East. Under the auspices of AMED, Singapore established the Regional Training Centre for Public Administration (RTCPA) in Doha, Qatar in 2006 and the Regional Vocational Training Centre (RVTC) in Amman, Jordan in 2007. Since inception, these centres have offered training programmes in public administration, trade facilitation, sustainable development, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)
